Like many Thousand Trails parks, this one is on the older side, but it's really so big it just felt like staying in a state park. We went for walk/hikes everyday, multiple times and rarely covered the same ground. Lake Tawakoni is massive and pretty nice to look at. There are also separate adult and family centers with pools.
Very clean park. But that's what you get from Thousand Trails. Friendly staff and clean parks. Two thumbs up
This has been our favorite Thousand Trails park we've been to so far. The park is huge, has tons of lakefront and trails to walk. We really liked our spot, which had water views and plenty of space. The rangers seemed to be frequently visible throughout the park during the day and there is a regular schedule of events to partake in. We even met the Preserve Manager, who was super-friendly and welcoming.
Even though we work full-time while traveling, we found this place to be very relaxing.
The area is beautiful. But the roads are rough and narrow, and at the time of our visit in late August, the swarms of gnats were extremely bad. The lake is not something I would swim in. The property was quiet, and the staff were very kind.
very difficult to find a spot even during the week. full packed with full time permanent RVers and received very little guidance from the ranger on where there were available spots with full hookup. multiple sites had cords running across them to adjacent sites. multiple sites were closed for electrical. full hookup (sewage) up at a few available spots but difficult to find. 30 amp only. in general facilities are rundown... in desperate need of updates.
This park is in the middle of nowhere, so if you're trying to get away from it all, this is the place for you. It is a bit of a haul to the more populated areas outside of Dallas, but we did embark over to Rockwall a couple of times to eat out while we were there. There are some grocery stores within 20 minutes in the smaller nearby towns.
It's a nice Campground, but like most of them, it's falling apart faster than they can keep it up.
Our only complaints would be that both community centers seemed to have a lot of wasp nests under the awnings, and there was a little clutter building up in the laundry room (seemed like people were leaving old electronics/furniture thinking they would get used (who knows, maybe they do).
